Purpose of the Job

  • The System Designer is part of Project Engineering team.
  • He/She develops system or subsystems architecture, defining and allocating requirements, evaluating design trade‑offs, balancing technical risk, defining and assessing interfaces, keeping close coordination with verification and validation activities and with project deployment activities, in line with the System / Subsystem Roadmap.
  • He/she provides all the necessary support to the System Engineering Manager (SEM) / Project Engineering Manager (PrEM) for the technical answer to the needs expressed by the Solution Director and the specific user project needs.

Organisational Reporting

  • Direct report line to : TrainborneDesignEngineering Group Manager
  • Dotted report to PrEM (during program / project execution)

Links with: System Engineers, Product Designers, Software Designers, System Application Architect (SAA), Project Architect, V&V, Safety, RAM, Quality, Project Engineering team.

Responsibilities

For SYS Activities:

  • Develop system documents, specifications and other technical documents.
  • Apply the system engineering processes.
  • Ensure that the system technically fulfils the defined needs and enhancements (change requests) and that a proper system engineering approach is being followed.
  • Ensure technical consistency and alignment with Project Engineering teams throughout the development, providing technical support to V&V, and support to Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety Analysis. Interact with other System Engineers and with other Métier engineers to ensure the design fits with the intended architecture.
  • Develop typical applications of the system for Generic System/Product validation purposes and manage design feedback from verification and validation team.
  • Minimize, by design, the System deployment cost, lead time and risks.
  • Contribute to the definition and maintenance of the System Baselines, analyse and implement Change Requests.
  • Prepare and participate in Design Reviews.
  • Contribute to system configuration activities, to requirement management activities and Data preparation for ERTMS and SCMT/SSC systems.
  • Ensure that the system follows standardization approach by reusing existing solutions or by implementing reusable solutions, and by providing for generic System/product an efficient system deployment kit (tools, user documentation…).
  • Provide support to Projects external stakeholders (Customers, Users, Tenders) and participate to the QCD estimation.
  • Understand and apply the TIS System Development processes and contribute to continuous improvement (RoE, process,…).
  • Advise the SEM / PrEM of the recommended path that the development should take, outlining the reasons for that recommendation
