Requirements
  • Qualification as Captain on one or several of the following rivers:
    • Danube
    • Dutch and Belgian rivers
    • Rhine, Main and Moselle
    • Seine, Rhône and Saône
  • A or B river patent
  • Radar and radio certificate for the respective areas of operation
  • Ability to communicate in German for navigation purposes
  • Ability to communicate in English with guests and company personnel
  • Leadership skills
  • Team player
  • Good social skills and ability to interact with guests
  • Organized and dependable personality with a strong sense of responsibility

Role and Responsibilities
  • Represent the company values and visions
  • Ensure a professional and courteous service while managing the daily operations
  • Implement and maintain company standards and operating procedures
  • Adhere and enforce the company “Safety Management plan”
  • Observe all legal requirements and protocols
  • Conduct quality controls and spot checks
  • Distribute information within the team as well as to all other departments, including shore-side and head office
  • Navigate the ship safely from port to port along Europe’s rivers
  • Direct, manage and supervise all nautical-technical-safety matters
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of the ship, the guests, the entire crew, and environmental stewardship
  • Supervise and train the nautical team in carrying out deck work
  • Interact with guests courteously
  • Liaise with the hotel manager and cruise director to ensure guest satisfaction
  • Evaluate nautical crew and provide feedback, including performance enhancing action plans when necessary
  • Support and encourage talented crewmembers by identifying and suggesting career steps, following the company HR operating standards
  • Liaise professionally with local authorities during inspections and audits
  • Monitor the nautical crew vacation plans
  • Monitor the nautical crew duty-schedules and ensure compliance with relevant labour legislation
  • Be familiar with all docking locations
  • Ensure proper storage use and that emergency escape routes are always free

Side Tasks
  • Prepare and supervise winter repairs
  • In charge of winter harbor
  • Manage other duties such as luggage service, loading, and garbage off-loading
  • Manage and execute all safety drills
  • Report any accidents or incidents to the company accordingly
  • Identify “near miss” situations accordingly and follow up with reports
  • Participate in scheduled trainings, briefings, and meetings
