We are looking for experienced MECHANIC for cruise vessel MITSUI OCEAN FUJI.

Embarkation at the end of December 2024

Contract 6 months +/-1

Salary in USD/per month worked - to be advised upon interview


Position Summary:


The Mechanic shall carry out assignments and complete work orders as directed by the Staff Chief Engineer with regards to maintenance and repair work on the various systems and components throughout the vessel’s engine spaces, pump rooms, casing, shaft alleys and other associated areas. The holder of this position must be a highly skilled technician, capable of working with minimum supervision and with the ability to carry out advanced troubleshooting , maintenance and repair works.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


To support mission of sustaining an upmarket cruise experience with a destination-driven brand image. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the required Standards, Safety is Everybody's Business, ISM/ISO and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and environmental regulations.


1. In accordance with Company Standards it is each employee’s responsibility to conduct their self at all times in a professional and courteous manner concerning physical and verbal interactions with guests and fellow shipboard employees.



2. The Company places the highest value on the environment and all crewmembers shall do the same. This position shall work with supervisors to understand and comply with the company's environmental policies and be committed to safeguarding the environment. He/she shall directly and immediately inform his/her immediate supervisor if any environmental system does not function properly onboard.



3. Overhauling and maintaining mechanical equipment throughout the vessel.



4. Carry out welding, including TIG and MIG as required



5. Be highly skilled in the operation of various motorized machine shop tools including drill press, lathe, grinder, etc.



6. Carry out fabrication and repair to various steelworks, including aluminum and stainless steel.



7. Fabricate, install and repair general plumbing systems and components, working in steel, copper, and various composite materials.



8. Assist with the overhauling of propulsion and auxiliary systems when necessary.



9. Be familiar with the RFR System.



10. Be familiar with PMS Maintenance and spare part ordering system.



11. Shipboard employees may be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.







Financial Responsibilities:





  • The position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of chemicals, supplies and equipment.

Motivational Responsibilities:


  • The position does not have supervisory / motivational responsibilities but is expected to contribute wherever and however possible towards maintaining a positive and productive workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum hiring, language and physical requirements to perform the job


Hiring Requirements:


  • Must hold appropriate certificate(s) or diploma(s) in area of technical specialty.
    • Three or more years’ progressive technical experience and training in lath operation and fabrication / welding of steel and other materials, including composite materials.
    • Previous exposure to international environments strongly preferred.
    • Ability to work with an international staff in a positive and productive manner.


Internal Candidate Requirements:



In addition to the stated hiring requirements, internal candidates are required to fulfill the following:





§ Completion of one contract with a performance rating of satisfactory or above.



§ No written warnings on file within the past 6 months.


Language Requirements:


  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests, supervisors and co-workers.
  • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.

Physical Requirements:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Therefore, the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds is necessary.
